Dr. Charan Lanjewar has accumulated the experience of nearly 25 years in the field of interventional cardiology. He has performed more over 16,000 complex coronary angioplasties including coronary angiographies, balloon valvuloplasties, complex paediatric structural interventions, and pacemakers; he has performed more over 30,000 cardiac procedures till date. His area of interest is structural heart disease both in adult and pediatric Cardiology with an expertise in echocardiographic imaging and non-surgical cardiac interventions such as ASD, VSD and PDA device closures; balloon pulmonary , aortic valvuloplasties ,Aortic aneurysm repair(TEVER)and dilatation and stenting of Coaractation of aorta and Percutaneous transcathter Aortic valve replacement(TAVR).
He is currently working as the Professor & Unit Head of Cardiology at Mumbai’s world renowned Seth Govardhandas Sunderdas Medical College and King Edward Memorial Hospital. (GSMC& KEMH.)Not only that, he has undergone his super-speciality medical education at the same institute .He is a visiting consultant in renowned institutions like Gleneagle(Global) Hospital.
He has also been conferred the Fellowships of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). Earlier, he had trained in Interventional Cardiology at the McMaster University, Canada (2008). He had also finished clinical research training at the same Canadian University.
His paper on anomalous origin of coronary artery from the opposite aortic sinus of Valsalva and RSOV device closure are considered one of its kind even today. In addition to that, he was also a part of the research group at KEM Hospital that developed a new echocardiographic score for Indian patients undergoing surgical pericardiectomy.
He has given birth to the Primary Angioplasty in Myocardial Infarction (PAMI) Project at Mumbai (BMC Hospital), the first PAMI project in Western India. The PAMI project is intended to provide the facility of angioplasty to each and every patient who presents with heart attack. The person suffering of life-threatening heart attack is taken to the state-of-the-art cardiac catheterisation laboratory of KEM Hospital and given the required treatment, including in-general costly angioplasty, at free of cost. The project is already alive and kicking. It has saved more than 200 lives already.
